Submissions Now Open for Petapan: First Light Showcase 2019

Petapan: First Light will take place in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador June 13-16, 2019.

Petapan: First Light is a bi-annual symposium that celebrates the diversity, strength, and excellence of Indigenous arts practice in Atlantic Canada, and addresses the unique challenges facing Atlantic Canadian Indigenous artists and arts practitioners in terms of the creation, dissemination, and promotion of work. The symposium will take place in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador June 13-16, 2019.

The three day symposium includes workshops, networking and a showcase event.The performing arts showcases will take place at the D.F. Cook Recital Hall at the Memorial School of Music in St. John's on the evening of Saturday, June 15th 2019.

CRITERIA

The call for submissions is open to Indigenous artists in Atlantic Canada. The showcase is multi-disciplinary, so is open to a variety of performing artists including musicians, spoken word artists, theatrical performances, dancers, storytellers, multi-media productions, etc. If you have any questions about your submission including eligibility, contact Petapan Showcase Project Manager at info@atlanticpresenters.ca

SELECTION PROCESS

All submissions will be reviewed by a jury of industry leaders and artists.

Between five and seven artists will be selected and contacted by the Petapan Showcase Project Manager to confirm their participation and other required details.

All artists will be notified whether they are selected to showcase or not.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

The application has mandatory fields that request links to artist video, audio, technical needs, touring history, photo, bio, etc.

We will accept submissions a variety of ways:

- Online submission form (preferred method)

- Email form (please contact the Petapan Showcase Manager for details)

- Mail in form with DVDs and CDs (contact the Petapan Showcase Manager for details)

SHOWCASING EXPENSES

Petapan: First Light Symposium will cover all travel and accommodation costs for performers, as well as, equipment expenses. Each performer will also receive an honorarium. Performers are invited to attend the symposium in its entirety, free of charge.
