Kick-off to Contact East 2010
July 26, 2010 | The Town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia has provided a contribution of $10,000 in support of Contact East 2010, which takes place from September 23-26 in Antigonish and includes a performing arts conference plus 50 live performances of many of the very best Canadian artists in theatre, music and dance.
"We visited Antigonish to meet Deputy Mayor Liz Chisholm last week and we are very happy to have such strong support from the town, our committee members, and our sponsors who are doing great things for Contact East. The town itself, the scenic beaches and first-class venues, have provided a lot of inspiration for our programming." says Sue Urquhart, Contact East Committee member and Executive Director for the Atlantic Presenters Association, a non-profit arts presenters organization which produces the event every year. "We're looking forward to having people from the area come out to see the live performances, there are 50 to choose from - music of all genres, comedians, dance and theatre, there really is something for everyone at Contact East!"
Many local business owners and residents in Antigonish have come on board as significant sponsors for Contact East 2010 and, new to the event this year, the Atlantic Presenters Mentorship Program will provide six youth from Atlantic Canada the opportunity to learn about the different roles and responsibilities among professionals in the performing arts industry.
On Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 11:00am - 12:00pm the Contact East Committee is hosting a press conference at the Immaculata Auditorium located on the St. FX campus. The committee will make several announcements about the outstanding sponsorship received in Antigonish, international delegates attending, conference speakers, and the international and regional programs new to the event this year. The Contact East 2010 image is a piece of original artwork painted by Antigonish-born artist Ryan MacGrath and will be revealed during the press conference, which is hosted by actor and producer Jeremy Webb.
