Astor Theatre Hiring General Manager

June 19, 2019 | The Astor is the oldest performing venue in Nova Scotia, and with a 340 seat capacity and recent physical upgrades, is a cultural hub for the South Shore.

Tradition and innovation have successfully presented highly acclaimed musical and theatrical productions,workshops-including the always sold out summer theatre camps for kids -films and live streaming ..such as the recent Raptors finals.

The theatre is located in the old Town Hall and the Board of Directors envisions this to be a vibrant and self supporting cultural space with the theatre as the crown jewel.

The General Manager, with a small part time staff and committed volunteers will lead the hands on implementation of this vision, ensuring that public demand continues and grows for the theatre offerings and developing partnerships with like organizations to attract new patrons and programming.

This is a lean operation with minimal financial resources and the GM must be adept at finding support through grants, business contacts, donors,as well as creatively solving operational demands.

The GM must bring experience that allows them to quickly assess the current operations and build a business plan for the Board this year using the updated strategic plan, comprehensive data available and the deep knowledge of the board, staff and supporters. Programming for 2020 is well in hand allowing the new GM to quickly start to obtain insights into the Astor's opportunities and challenges.

The Board wants to attract a General Manager with enthusiasm for the role of cultural organizations in our community, a hands-on inclusive management approach that works well with others to achieve goals and demonstrates the ability to balance the bigger picture with daily realities.

The full time salary is $40K. The Board would like to conduct interviews in July. Visit astortheatre.ns.ca to learn more about The Astor.

How to apply:

Please send a covering letter outlining what you would bring to the position, plus a resume,by email to Carla Powell, Board Secretary at thedomain@hotmail.com.
